Today, Georgia celebrates its Mother Language Day! Georgia has been striving for EU membership and protection of EU values and human rights since restoration of its independence.
A public lecture and discussion on "Basic Values of the European Union and the Accession Procedure" was held at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. The event was opened by the Rector of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, Professor Merab Khalvashi. The meeting was organized by the Jean Monnet Department of BSU in collaboration with the English Language Center Eti Holding. Professor Malkhaz Nakashidze, Head of the Jean Monnet Department, spoke about the core values of the European Union, as well as the procedure for joining the European Union.
The students were also addressed and questions answered by the founder of Eti Holding Irina Khazhalia and the head of the Information Center on NATO and the European Union in Ajara Irma Gabinashvili. A discussion was held at the end of the meeting.
The event was organized within the framework of the Jean Monnet Chair of the project "The Core values of the European Union: Democracy, Rule of Law and Human Rights", funded by the European Union and aims to promote EU values by promoting research and teaching about the EU.
